Yes, it's already been a year, and Alexander had his big birthday party on Saturday. His actual birthday isn't until May 30, but when Daddy is going away for a couple of weeks, you've gotta do what you've gotta do. So, we had around 65 people, yes 65, at his big birthday bash!
Cooking with Mom is tiresome! Alex and I started cooking all the food around 7:30 after Edward left with Madison and Luke for a t-ball game. Alex had his breakfast, while I never really had mine :) I just started cooking.
The BEST 1st Birthday Cake!!!! A lady at my church is a baker, and she makes these wonderful creations. She'll always have my business. This cake was a HUGE hit. It was also just plain HUGE, but it was such a hit that there are only about five pieces of cake left! All of it is edible, evne the little train and animals. She's got a fantastic eye for cakes.
It was a "Destination Birthday Party" at our brand new community center. Here's the multi-purpose room.
The new community center has the multi-purpose room, this toddler room, a workout room, and a teen room. It's a beautiful building, and even better, it's all free to use! As you can see, our kids loved playing in the toddler room.
Alex loved these little cars the community center had in the toddler room, and then he ended up getting a pack of them for his birthday.
Table for 65!!! Yes, we had quite a crowd, but that's to be expected here in our little town. I made all the food (except the cake) which included: 2 trays of lasagna, 3 trays of stuffed shells, 2 trays of homemade mac-n-cheese, 1 HUGE tossed salad, 1 HUGE fruit salad, 5 loaves of garlic bread, and 4 qts. of homemade vanilla ice cream (Edward's speciality). What was leftover-NOTHING!!!! All the food was eaten, and it seemed like I guessed right on the amounts. Whew! Cooking for 65 was new for me.
The multi-purpose room has a nice kitchen in it.
Alex had to have a photo-op with his gal pal, Katie. Katie is Alex's Birthday Buddy. They were born the same day, exactly 12 hours apart to the minute. Amy, Katie's mom, and I were already friends, and we shared the same delivery and recovery nurses. Katie's dad is a doctor at the Marine Base, so it sounds like these two have a lot of similiarities already. More on the birthday babies in another post.

"Baby" Kate...I don't think it will matter how big Kate gets. Madison loves to call her "Baby Kate" still. Kate's a favorite Jones Family Friend who appears on many of our outings :)
Alex was passed around to many moms...hanging out with Sara.
This happy couple doesn't know what is about to hit them in July :) I think they are getting tips on throwing a first birthday so they'll be ready to throw their own in just over a year.

And, here it is....the 1st Annual Baby Crawl Competition
With so many little guys, we couldn't pass up the opportunity for a game. Kids play games at parties, right? We decided to have a "Baby Crawl" competition. You'd think Alex would be a sure winner, but the winner was...Briggs!
Alex stopped and took time to smell the roses :) Actually, he stopped, looked around, crawled over to a friend, stood up, and then he just started walking around. Briggs had the advantage of having his mom at the Finish Line. I was at the start, so Alex didn't see me as the "motivation" to get to the finish.
Alex crawled over to Ryder for some playtime.
Then, we decided on a baby boy photo op...because these little boys are all just a couple of months apart...they keep Edward busy in the clinic!

Alex is the second oldest of the group and the only walker so far! Way to go little buddy!
