We love Southwest Airlines...I'd never flown them before, but they still have two free bags per passenger. With eight checked bags, we were very glad we didn't have to pay $10-$20 a bag! Also, drink service came through four times, and we had two snacks! Most of all, I am so glad we have a direct flight on they way home. A layover in Vegas was fine, but we had to drag the kids away from the slots :)
Overall, we had a great flight. We happened to fly on the one day the airports in the East were all closed due to 18 inches of snow. Raleigh, luckily, was clear, and our plane wasn't affected, so we got in on time. It ended up being about seven hours of flying time-one hour from Phoenix to Vegas, and then we had a six hour flight to Raleigh. The kids were great, and we didn't even have a solid minute of crying from Alex...more than I could have asked for. Our only downside was that we did see a man who'd apparently had a heart attack and die brought off a flight in Vegas.
Our luggage made it, all eight pieces...but they didn't survive the manhandling of the baggage workers...two bags were broken. Since most of our luggage was purchased just before we got married, making it almost 10 years old, we started looking for new bags and found a great deal while shopping at the outlet mall in Smithfield. These new Samsonite bags have a 10-year warranty, so hopefully Southwest doesn't make us have to use that warranty on our return trip.
