They say many men go through some sort of mid-life crisis at milestone birthdays, 40. 50, 60, etc. Edward hit a milestone birthday this year, 30, just last week, but I don't think his car purchase reflects that of a "mid-life crisis" purchase.
Edward's big car purchase reflects more of a "Dad-like" purchase. After seven and a half years, we said good-bye to his blue Volkswagon Jetta. It was a really good car for him, and he enjoyed all 105,000 miles of it. From Ft. Lauderdale to Ft. Bragg to Yuma, this car has been moved everywhere. It was our first big purchase as a married couple, and I can say that because we technically bought and closed on our Ft. Lauderdale townhouse a month before we got married :)
Yesterday, the Jetta made its last trip with us to San Diego. While great for a young couple, the Jetta is not equipped to withstand three carseats; two carseats was a big stretch itself! Edward has been scouring the Internet for a few months and finally found what he's been looking for:
Here's his new "Dad-moblie" a 2008 Buick Enclave, a crossover car meaning it's built like an SUV on a car frame, and it has an interior like a minivan...two sets of captain's chairs and a third row of seats that folds down. While there are many crossovers, most only come with a second row bench seat, and with carseats there, it makes getting to the third row impossible. Only a couple, the Buick and the Saturn come with the captain's chairs in the middle.

Colorwise, this is one car that really changes color in the light. It's a blue gray mist color, so it can look blue like my minivan, slate green, or gray.
We love it. We've looked awhile, but they don't have many of the all-wheel drives in the desert. For us, that was a requirement because we hope to go to a colder climate next. Also, we had to have a trailer tow for a family on the move, literally. There's nothing this car doesn't have-nav system, two sunroofs, dvd player, etc.
Another random funny bonus for us is that it comes with California tags, and because we are military, we dont' have to change them. We have been collecting tags from all the states we've owned vehicles in, so this is a random plus. We never thought we'd have a California tag!
