Good-Bye Old Friend

by Martha

After six years and three months, the old computer kicked the bucket. We had a lot of good times together...a lifetime of memories for the computer. When it was purchased, I was in the middle of my master's degree at Florida State and teaching eighth grade English full-time, Edward was in his first year of medical school, and we had no kids. We were living in our new townhouse in Ft. Lauderdale with our cat, Tiger (he's still here). Edward's dad hadn't died; my dad hadn't been diagnosed with cancer; my mom had finished chemo, but hadn't begun to recover, only Edward's brother was married (now we've had his sister and both my sister and brother get married) , and we had no nieces. We've seen a lot of changes in six years. I'm sure the computer is sorry it isn't making the move to Arizona. We welcome our new friend and are calling "him" "Tax Rebate" because we used some of our tax stimulus to buy him. Thanks George Bush for the money; we'll enjoy our new Dell computer! The old Dell moved from its desk and awaiting to be hauled away.
